Secure in Christ is the Best Security

Lately, I’ve been wondering if I am clinging, with too much hope and expectation, to some worldly securities. Would I be able to loosen my grip on the things of this world, just a little more, if God challenged me to do so? Am I putting my future hope in Social Security, my retirement package, my bank account, a future inheritance, or anything else that is of this world?

Listen, God is shaking America because America is asleep. When you have a sleeping child that needs to wake up quickly, you start shaking them. If they keep sleeping, you shake harder. You start gently, but it may be necessary to become more violent. God has been gentle and patient with America for a long time. Wake up, children! Wake up! But America sleeps on!

America says: Amuse me! Feed me! Admire me! Make me feel good! Don’t disturb me with this God talk! I’m too busy! I’m too tired. Let me sleep! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Now God is beginning to shake us a little harder! Have YOU noticed? Will anyone ‘get it?’ Noah preached the coming judgment for 100 years and not one person in 100 years believed him about what was going to happen – and all while the ark was being built right before their eyes! Instead they likely said, “Freak!” to the man who was aware of the impending judgment, and warning everyone who would listen. But are we ignoring signs and warnings too? Do we practice being in God’s presence daily? Is God our invisible guest-of-honor in all we do? Do we exercise faith over fear? Are we convinced that we have a personal, loving, Father in Heaven, who is involved with every detail of our lives and he cares about us? Do we fear man more than God?

God will literally shake our economy, our government, our education system, our world-wide-web communication system, our personal comforts, our retirement plans, our homes, and anything and everything else that we put our trust and confidence in over Him. Personally, I don’t think the people of God will necessarily be excluded from some of the shaking that’s going to take place. That really does not excite me! How about you? I don’t want to suffer! However, much of the church (followers of Jesus Christ) are stagnant, settled, conformed to the world, complacent, and unalarmed with the immoral climate of the nation and world. Probably, even I could use a little more kick in the seat too! I do believe I am on fire for God, but I’m sure I have more to surrender!

God is no respecter of persons. Even people who are Christians need inspection and correction. God wants his children to have perfect hearts, and to follow their Shepherd closely. Those who think they can follow Christ and live carelessly, or even sinfully, are skating on thin ice. Biblical history teaches us that all evil men will be found out and punished. God’s search-lamp is out! While we may not be “evil men” (mankind), we must never so much flirt with evil/sin either! The Bible says, “Evil communications corrupt good manners.” 1 Cor. 15:33. Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. 1 Cor. 10:12 If you don’t want to fall, pay attention! Stay away from sin!

“And it will come about at that time That I will search Jerusalem with lamps, And I will punish the men who are stagnant in spirit [that are settled on their lees - KJV], who say in their hearts, ‘The LORD will not do good or evil!’” (Zeph. 1:12)

In this passage, God warned His people over and over again, but they didn’t believe judgment would happen to them. Sadly, the day did come! God sent an army and destroyed them.

Another verse in 2 Kings also shows us how God abhors sin and punishes it.

“But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the LORD God of Israel with all his heart: for he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam, which made Israel to sin.
In those days the LORD began to cut Israel short: and Hazael smote them in all the coasts of Israel;”
2 Kings 10:31-32

See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven: Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire. (Hebrews 12:25-29)

What is it in your life that seems safe and secure besides God? Well, God might shake that too, if that’s where you have your confidence. It’s not wrong to use the securities of this world as tools, but remember, it’s our God who makes our securities secure!

Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. (Matthew 7:24-29)

Let’s make sure all our priorities are right. We could be facing some earth shaking days in the future, but we must remember that the Bible says to fear God rather than man. The Word says that God delights in mercy. The promise of God’s mercy is a surety to every believer. Jesus is the Rock of Ages. A person who builds his house upon this Rock (Jesus Christ) will survive everything that’s coming! The foundation of the ‘house’ in this parable is obedience to God. I’m not talking about legal obedience – a cold, technical formality, based on a fear of consequences, (hell) – but obedience that comes from a genuine desire to please God and bring Him pleasure.

This is all important advice, because you and I may be facing the trial of our faith in the near future! Too many Christians have been counting on: ‘I’ll fly away,’ and they have decided that this event will happen before anything uncomfortable happens to them personally. Well, I count on flying away too, but I’m not so sure that it’s happening in the time frame when most Christians think it is!

Nevertheless, Fear not! We still have the same eternal, all-powerful God with us, despite the fact that we see a line being drawn in the sand, which ostracizes God’s people from the politically correct, tolerant global citizens’ crowd. Judgment is at the door, folks!

In the Bible, Paul said, “Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men…” (2 Corinthians 5:11). Folks, that’s my motive with all the ministry I’m involved in: my website, my Christian Motorcyclists Association ministry, prison ministry, support for missionaries, and my own involvement in overseas mission trips. I go out, with other Christians, to the highways and byways, to persuade men of the coming judgment, so they can have the chance to repent and prepare to meet their Maker.

And remember – Either He’s Lord of all– or not Lord at all.
